These trophies were commissioned for the Sheffield Enterprise Challenge, a competition that promotes new and innovative businesses. It was essential that a strong level of innovation was reflected in the trophy concept.
While the client dictated the predominant use of metal within the trophy, a number of other materials that demonstrate, and celebrate, Sheffield’s industrial background were selected.
"From the production of exquisite knife blades through to large iron castings Sheffield has a rich history of crafts, innovation and industry that people are not always aware of. For this reason, this trophy adopts a range of these production methods and innovations, old and new, that demonstrate the significance of Sheffield’s history - past, present and future."
Each part to this trophy represents an important stage in Sheffield’s industrial development and by utilising different materials, methods of production and craftspeople; Stainless steel, high-tech robotic manufacture and traditional metal spinning this trophy distills the essence of Sheffield.
Each trophy was provided with a Certificate of Authenticity which contained information regarding the people, processes and materials that contributed to the manufacture of the trophy. Alongside this information each craftsperson involved provided their signature and finger print to validate their work.
